What's The Definition of Sparkling Wine?

Sparkling Wine: a wine that is bubbly due to the non-release of carbon dioxide, a by-product of fermentation. The first sparkling wines were made in Champagne, France and only ones produced in that region can be officially called Champagne. When made elsewhere, they are called sparkling wines. Usually made from Chardonnay or Pinot Noir grapes.
