Wines to watch from Texas

texasbluebonnetsflagMother Nature is shining on Texas vineyards this year. Thanks to a great Spring with no frost, just the right balance of moisture and low temperatures, Texas wine makers are enjoying a fantastic year.

All of this good weather is helping the grapes and naturally many other crops throughout the state.  These are all great conditions for exploring Texas wines!

For our friends who are looking to get out to Texas wine country, it should be beautiful right now with the vines now putting their energy into developing the grape berry. (you may even see a few late-blooming bluebonnets!).  Here are a few suggested wineries in the Central :

Messina Hof Winery
Colony Cellars
Retreat Hill Winery
Pleasant Hill Winery
Bernhardt Winery

What are some of our friends from Texas drinking right now?

Viognier – Brennan Winery, Becker Vineyard (both award winners!)
Riesling – Messina Hof Winery
Fume Blanc – Becker Vineyards
Chardonnay (un-oaked) – Llano Estacado
Pinot Grigio – Bernhardt Winery

These are all great wines to enjoy chilled.
